The Department of Management and Media Economics was established in 2008. In 2013 it was transformed into the Chair of Management and Media Economics, and then into the Chair of Media Management and Advertising. It currently functions as the Chair of Management, Media Economics and Advertising.

The Chair's scientific activity focuses on the study of processes determining media management, including, without limitation: information as the basic good of the 21st century, advertising in its various aspects (cultural, social, communication, economic, etc.), media economics, media systems, legal bases of media organisations, IT systems supporting management, etc.

Since the beginning of its existence, the Chair has been intensively involved in scientific activities within the framework of the young discipline of media management. The reflection on media management is developing very intensively around the world. Along with the processes of mediatisation of the social space, the progress of digitisation, and such phenomena as convergence or the building of structures of an information society, the demand for research in this area increases systematically. The Chair of Management, Media Economics and Advertising is one of the few units in Poland where such analyses have already been conducted for several years. In 2010, the Head of the Chair, Prof. Bogusław Nierenberg, spoke at World Media Economics and Management Conference, a prestigious international event, thus becoming the first Pole to present the results of his research in the field of media management for an international audience.

In 2016, Prof. Jan Kreft, Michał Wójciak, MA and Malwina Popiołek, MA were also invited to the WMEMC conference in New York. They presented the results of their research on, among others, the power of algorithms in contemporary media space, information management in social media and fashion brand management, exchanging experiences and reflections with representatives of the international scientific community.
